Henry, the world’s oldest known crocodile, celebrated his 124th birthday on December 16, 2024, at Crocworld Conservation Centre in South Africa!
Originally captured in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, in 1903, Henry has lived at Crocworld since 1985. Despite his age, this Nile crocodile remains vigorous and thriving, having fathered over 10,000 offspring in the last four decades!
While his exact birthdate is unknown, experts estimate he was born around 1900, making him one of the longest-living crocodiles ever recorded.
“Whether he’s 100 or 130, we don’t really know. An age of 124 is not inconceivable for a crocodile,” says biologist Steven Austad from the University of Alabama.
Happy Birthday, Henry!
